FAQ
GENERAL
When are you open?
We are open Wednesdays through Sundays. We open at 8:30 am, activities start at 9am and we close the gates at 5pm. On Sundays however, we open at 9:30 am, activities start at 10am and we close the gates at 4pm.
We are open on most public holidays as we know people want to get out of the house and have fun. You can refer to our google business profile for the specific public holidays in question, to check our open/close status. To reach this profile, just search “CryWolf” on google and look at the profile presented on the right hand side of the screen for “CryWolf Paintball, Laser Tag and Archery”.
We do close annually for about two weeks, from somewhere before Christmas thought to the first week in January. These dates are not set well in advance, as it depends on booking interest. But our closing dates usually starts around 18-20 December and opening around 5-8 January.
Do we need to book?
Yes, we highly recommend booking in advance. Although we are sometimes able to assist walk-in customers, we prioritise booked customers. If you do not book, you may have to wait for long periods or more often, we just cannot fit you in. In order to confirm a booking, a deposit will be payable. Details will be specified in the email you receive when you make a booking on the booking page.
Why do you require a booking deposit?
It’s not a penalty, but we’ve learned that a deposit helps managing our operations – groups pitch when they paid a deposit.
We get very busy on certain days and therefore, we need to dedicate equipment and casual staff to every booking. We also sometimes have to say no to other bookings because we are fully booked. If a group just does not pitch, the business loses out in two ways: firstly, we might have lost other bookings due to having been fully booked and secondly we still have to pay our casual staff. For this reason we require a booking deposit in order to cover our basic costs, should a group not pitch.
Keep in mind, it’s just a deposit and will be subtracted from your bill on the day.
Is my booking deposit refundable?
That depends on the case in question. We are human too, we know stuff happens – e.g. kids getting sick on weekends and public holidays 😉 There’s also the matter of bad weather, which we will discuss in more detail below. But we will not refund a booking deposit if a group just does not pitch and never informed us beforehand. It boils down to just informing us as soon as possible. Of course you have the option to reschedule.
Keep in mind, it’s just a deposit and will be subtracted from your bill on the day, if you do arrive.
What if there is bad weather, e.g. it rains?
We are an outdoor venue and just a few times year the weather does not play along. We have quite a bit of under-roof seating. But the challenge comes in with the activities in many cases.
If it’s hard rain, unfortunately none of our activities are available. In a light drizzle, we can still do paintball, but unfortunately none of the other activities. Being in Centurion, often the rain has the character of quick rain episodes, followed by no rain. And sometimes a bit intermittent. For those that are available, we do try to do as much paintballing and others as possible, on these days. But there’s no scientific rule here; we take it as it comes, do our best to satisfy our customers and ask everyone to be a little more patient.
If the weather on a day is not suitable for your group, and you inform us of this, we will gladly refund your deposit or reschedule for another day.
Why do we need to complete and indemnity?
Safety is literally our highest priority. You can read about this on our social media pages, as experienced by actual customers. Our equipment is tested regularly to ensure they are safe. Our staff is competent and will explain all the safety rules, in order to keep you and your guests safe. They will get strict in certain cases if participants are not abiding by the rules.
But we cannot control the actions of every individual all the time.
Although we’ve never had serious injuries in the more than 10 years that we’ve been in operation, the indemnity protects us against risks that are not within our control. Any outdoor recreational activity center, no matter the activity, will have this in place.
The biggest risk is players removing their masks during a paintball game – this would have been clearly prohibited by the marshal (staff), but if the marshal cannot see the player removing the mask on other side of the field, that player is in definitely in danger. If you have inexperienced players (e.g. a group of kids) coming for a paintball game, you can definitely mention this specific rule to them beforehand – do not remove a mask during a paintball game for whatever reason.
Where/how do we complete the indemnity?
We recommend using our online indemnity. This can be done on a mobile phone or pc. It needs to be completed for every participant. For those younger than 18, the parent or legal guardian has to complete the indemnity. Please ensure that your guests receive the link beforehand, so they can also have this completed before the game. The online indemnity, after completion, will generate a PDF which will be sent to your email address entered. We will also receive a copy of the PDF, so you do not need to email it to us.
Lastly, there is the option to complete a paper indemnity on the day. This takes longer and might put some time pressure on your group, which we try to avoid.
What does it cost?
We do not charge any entry fees. You only pay for the activities, drinks, food, snacks and other purchases. All the prices on our pricing page are up to date.
Can I get a quote beforehand?
If you just want to know what the total bill will be, please visit the pricing page to calculate the total.
However, if you are a requesting a quote for a business, for purposes of approvals/budgeting/procurement, we will gladly generate a quote with our official details and VAT number on it. In this case, please drop us an email at experience@crywolf.co.za with your needs.
What do I need to bring along on the day?
Remember to complete your indemnities beforehand, it’s required for every participant. More details above.
Your method of payment. More details below.
If you are playing paintball, it’s a good idea for the players to wear some older clothes. Jeans work well, as they offer a bit of extra protection underneath the overalls.
Refer to the Food and Drinks section below for more detail on this.
How do I pay at the venue?
We try to keep as little cash as possible at our venue as it increases the risk for everyone. Therefore, we accept visa and master cards, zapper, snapscan and even EFT’s with a proof of payment.
Instead of making many smaller purchases during the day, we recommend that groups create a tab and add items to the tab. This is then settled when your group is done. We can accept multiple split payments on a single bill. And of course, the booking deposit will be subtracted from the bill as well.
We've booked for a certain time, but when do we need to arrive?
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your allocated start time. This allows time for payments, gearing up, briefings to be completed and other odds and ends to be finalised. Share this info with your guests.
It really helps if all the indemnities are completed beforehand, using our online indemnity Completing a paper indemnity on the day, takes more time. Refer to the question above about about where and how to complete the indemnity.
How does the seating work? Can we reserve seating?
We have various different seating options, from tables and chairs to benches. Some are under-roof, some are under trees, some under umbrellas and some more sunny. We do not reserve tables for groups. But since we limit the number op players overall, there will be seating to choose from when you arrive.
What is there something to do for the younger brothers/sisters?
For the very young ones, we have tram rides available for a small fee. But keep in mind, this is outdoors and there’s lot’s going on – kids keep busy. If the kids are a little older, you can check what other activities may be suitable.
Can we book for more than one activity?
Most definitely. Just indicate the activities you want to book for when completing you booking form. You should also mention your preferences in the comments section of the booking form.
I have a complaint, who do I talk to?
Yes, we do sometimes get things wrong. You are always welcome to send us an email at experience@crywolf.co.za – you can make it for the attention of the owner(s). You can talk to the manager directly, which can be reached on 0620 500 100. If you want to escalate the matter further, contact the owner directly on 082 825 9498.
FOOD AND DRINKS
Can we bring our own drinks?
Unfortunately, we do not allow any drink from outside. This means no cold drinks and liquor will be allowed on the premises from outside.
The reason is two-fold: firstly, we have a liquor license, which requires responsible control of liquor consumption on our premises; secondly, we sell our drinks at reasonable prices and there is very little reason in supporting a large retailer when you can support a small business.
Can we bring our own food?
We make basic hot foods (like boerewors rolls and toasted sandwiches) from our kitchen, which is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. We can open on other days with prior arrangement. We encourage your support of the kitchen as the food is freshly made.
Another option is to have a braai – many of our customers do. See the next question for more details.
Having mentioned the above, we realise that we cannot cater to everyone’s dietary requirements. Therefore, we allow foods from outside. This is especially true for special dietary requirements, like diabetics, halaal, etc. And of course, if you are big group that want to do a spit or arrange your own catered food, this is definitely possible – just inform us of your plans.
How does the rent-a-braai work?
Simple really: we provide a braaier (half-drum or similar), charcoal (or similar) and fire lighters. That’s it. The rest is up to you. At the moment, we do not supply raw meats, starches, salads, utensils, crockery or cutlery. So you need to bring this along!
Can we bring a cake and/or party packs for a birthday party?
You can definitely bring a cake – our advice is to keep it small because the kids are so excited and in anticipation of the activities, they barely touch the cake.
Although we do supply party packs if arranged beforehand, these are relatively generic. If you want to something special, please do. Please just remember that no drinks are allowed in the party packs.
What is the content of your party packs?
A variety of different sweet. Our margin on the party packs are minimal, so they represent good value for money.
Can we bring our own snacks?
We do sell various ice-creams, chips, chocolates and sweets. But, if the kids have a very specific requirement, then please feel free to bring it along.
PAINTBALL
When should I choose paintball?
It's our most popular activity, because many people know of paintball and want to experience it. It's by far the most thrilling activity we have and a lot of adrenaline will pump. This makes for next level fun and definitely an experience your guests will remember.
Paintball is not suitable for very young kids. Refer to the section about ages below. You may refer to the question about ages below. There are other, less intense activities on offer for them. Keep in mind, paintball is quite physically intensive and the players will be between tired and completely exhausted after this activity.
What does paintball cost?
It depends on what package you choose. Refer to the pricing page for up-to-date prices.
What's the minimum age for paintball?
We recommend girls to be at least 10 years old an boys to be at least 8 years old. It's just sort of from experience. There are no hard rules however, as children's personalities are diverse. You best know your child(ren).
We find that involvement from the parents, give the young players a lot of comfort and makes it more manageable.
What's a good group size?
It's sort of a matter of "the more the merrier". Our fields are quite large and can easily accommodate 20 players at a time. Generally a group size of 10 works really well.
What's the minimum group size?
We recommend at least 6 players, but our minimum is 4 players per group. From time-to-time, we can accommodate less players, but only if the other bookings for the day allow. We also have the option of just shooting one of our guns a bit as we have a dedicate corridor with some basic targets where we test our guns.
What's the maximum group size?
We recommend no more than 20 players, for normal groups (birthdays, bachelors and socials). That's roughly the number that can play at the same time on the same field.
We have about 100 paintball guns though and we can make use of different fields at the same time.
We've accommodated groups of 200 players. Of course, they cannot all play at the same time. So we break larger groups up into smaller teams and play different fields. Sometimes the groups are so large that some need to sit out for a round. But we rotate the teams and everyone will get a chance to experience the thrill of paintball.
Does paintball hurt?
It can.
But there are many factors which reduce this: our paintball markers (guns) are specifically set to limit the speed at which the paintballs travel; in addition to the obvious mask, we also provide overalls and neck protectors, which absorbs a lot of the impact; paintball players are generally quite far apart when shooting at each other, so by the time the paintball arrives, it's lost a lot of it's oomf; there is quite a lot of adrenaline pumping when playing, so that sort of makes the slight stings very secondary; your marshal will guide players on how to play safely (e.g. not shooting at each other when closer than 5m).
If you are still a little worried about the pain factor, wear jeans and a jacket for extra protection. Or even ask for a second overall.
The biggest risk is players removing their masks during a paintball game - this would have been clearly prohibited by the marshal (staff), but if the marshal cannot see the player removing the mask on other side of the field, that player is in definitely in danger. If you have inexperienced players (e.g. a group of kids) coming for a paintball game, you can definitely mention this specific rule to them beforehand - do not remove a mask during a paintball game for whatever reason.
How long does the game last?
The games last as long as there are paintballs. If you make use of our all inclusive packages, these may include either 200 or 500 paintballs, as part of the package. In our experience, the 200 ball package makes 45-60 mins of play, with the 500 ball packages makes for about 2 hours of play.
We do allow the purchase of additional paintballs, even if you've purchased the all inclusive packages. This is subject to staff capacity and availability of equipment. Please do note, although we don't have sessions that end at fixed times, we take a practical approach, we book groups based on the estimated numbers and a bit of a safety net to avoid over-booking. Therefore, if the fields are quiet, you can take your time. But on busy days, we cannot allow a group to start, stop and have a full meal and then continue. On these days, the paintball needs to be done first, with the necessary refreshment breaks, and finished. We really do try not to rush groups. But it's a practical matter which we hope customers can relate to.
If your groups wants to play paintball for an entire day, rather book on days other than Saturdays. There will be a lot more time to break, perhaps even have a meal halfway through.
Can I bring my own paintballs?
It depends. If you make use of our equipment, we do not allow any outside paintballs to be used with our guns. If your bring your own equipment, you can bring your own paintballs. In this case, you will be charged a corkage for paintballs brought in. Remember, we sell basic field paintballs as well, at reasonable prices. Even full, unopened boxes of 2000 paintballs, may be purchased from us.
So it should be rare cases where it makes sense to bring paintballs along, unless you play speedball and require higher end paintballs.
What's the difference between paintball and laser tag?
With paintball, you are actually shooting paintballs at your opponents. With laser tag, you shoot an infrared beam, which get's registered as a hit by your opponent's vest.
On what field will we play?
You will usually get a chance to play on all the different fields. Perhaps more than once, depending on how long the paintballs last.
I have my own gear, but something's not working. Can you help?
It depends. We do not have qualified technicians which fix paintball gear. We also send our equipment in for repairs and maintenance for more complex fixes. But if it's just a generic seal that needs replacement, we should be able to hook you up. But don't count on it, and you cannot keep us liable if the repair is not up to your standards. It's merely a helping hand, with some know-how. That's it.
LASER TAG
When should I choose this laser tag?
In a way, laser tag is similar to paintball: it's played on the same fields, it's a game of "war" where you try to take out your opponents. But it differs in the sense that you are only shooting infrared beams and not paintballs. So there is no fear of getting hit. It's a bit less intense than paintball, but still lots of fun. It's a great alternative to paintball for those that just want something less extreme, with no chance of feeling any pain. It is recommended for young kids too, as well as the elderly.
What does laser tag cost?
Refer to the pricing page for up-to-date prices.
What's the minimum age for laser tag?
We recommend players to be at least 5 years old. We do have light hand-held laser tag guns, which makes it possible for younger players to participate.
What's a good group size?
It's sort of a matter of "the more the merrier". Our fields are quite large and can easily accommodate 20 players at a time. Generally a group size of 10 works really well.
What's the minimum group size?
We recommend at least 6 players, and that's also our minimum. From time-to-time, we can accommodate less players, but only if the other bookings for the day allow.
What's the maximum group size?
We have a minimum of 20 laser tag guns available per group. So that is also our recommended maximum number of players. Our small handheld laser tag guns are more limited, so if this is a group of really young kids, which would require the smaller hand held guns, limit it to 8 players.
The different laser tag guns can play at the same time, as the electronics are exactly the same. It's merely the body that differs.
Does laser tag hurt?
Not at all. You are shooting an weak infra-red beam at your opponents, which is totally harmless. If your opponent's vest is hit, it merely registers a hit electronically. That's it.
How long does the game last?
A 3 hour session, with various games. You will receive a fixed starting time. It's especially important for laser tag to arrive at least 30 mins before your scheduled start time, to allow play to start on time. In most cases, we cannot allow the group to continue beyond their allocated session as the next group needs to start soon after.
What's the difference between paintball and laser tag?
With paintball, you are actually shooting paintballs at your opponents. With laser tag, you shoot an infrared beam, which get's registered as a hit by your opponent's vest.
On what field will we play?
You will get a chance to play on a variety of different fields.
ARCHERY
When should I choose archery?
Archery is suitable for everyone, young and old. Our bows will be set appropriate to the strength and preference of the archer. We use high-end compound bows, used in national competitions for junior archers. Anyone can shoot with them though.
You shoot at targets, which will be placed at a distance appropriate to the skill level of the archer. Archers stand next to each other when shooting, so it's great to do with a group of friends, for a bit of friendly competition. It's a just a great general activity for everyone to try. You might be surprised how quickly you get accurate with a bit of guidance.
It's also less of a physically tiring activity, so that may be suitable for those that are not up for exhaustion.
What does archery cost?
It depends on how many archers in the group. Refer to the pricing page for up-to-date prices.
What's the minimum age for archery?
We recommend players to be at least 6 years old, because there is a minimum level of strength required to pull the bow at the lowest setting.
What's a good group size?
5 to 10 archers make for a good group size. We have 5 bows. But archers need a rest anyways, so it's a good idea to switch out every so often. And the ones resting are not bored as they are thinking about their approach, watching the other archers, chatting. It's all good fun.
Note that the first 5 archers pay full prices, but any more than 5 will only pay half price.
What's the minimum group size?
We recommend at least 2 archers, and that's also our minimum.
What's the maximum group size?
We have 5 bows. But archers need a rest anyways, so it's a good idea to switch out every so often. And the ones resting are not bored as they are thinking about their approach, watching the other archers, chatting. It's all good fun.
If there are more than 10 that want to partake in the archery, it may be a good idea to book another activity, so that everyone is busy with something fun.
How long does the session last?
Exactly one hour. You will receive a fixed starting time and the session will end an hour later. It's especially important for archery to arrive at least 30 mins before your scheduled start time, to allow the session to start on time. It's also less of a physically tiring activity, so that may be suitable for those that are not up for exhaustion.
What does laser clays cost?
It depends on what package you choose. Refer to the pricing page for up-to-date prices.
What's the minimum age for laser clays?
We recommend players to be at least 8 years old, because there is a minimum level of strength required to raise the shotguns. These are essentially real shotguns, which have been converted to shoot infrared beams.
What's a good group size?
5 to 10 shooters make for a good group size. We have 5 guns and switch out shooters after every round, if needed. The ones sitting out are not bored as they are thinking about their approach, watching the other shooters, chatting. It's all good fun.
